Let’s Get ‘Er Done!

Today marks the first day of SSS eat right, drink (water) like a fish, and work out often, plan of fat attack. A week ago, I had an epiphany – I AM FAT! And being overweight is not a life sentence. In order to assure early parole from this jail of extra weight; I have come up with a plan. And yes, I have had plans in the past and am aware that my chances of success are slim to none. Joke intended.

However, as my 39th birthday looms on the horizon and my 40th, not far behind; I realize that time is not on my side and I need to get my A** in gear. I penned my attack plan, joined the gym near my house, and brought my walking shoes to work. I am serious and like every serious dieter, I am afraid; afraid of giving in to my love of M&Ms, cake, sweet tea, and carbs. I pray my determination outweighs my greed this time around and have built a Teflon suit of armor (surrounding myself with like-minded folks).

The SSS plan:
Eating every two – three hours up to six times daily and eating no later than 9pm
Drinking half my body weight in water daily (to the bathroom I go every 4 sec)
Some form of exercise daily (weight-training, water aerobics, squats, push-ups, etc.)
20 minute walks twice daily at work
No sugar (shaking like a crack head)
No dairy
No processed foods
No soda or tea
Weigh-in every Monday
Food diary

The plan is still a work in progress as is my body, but so far so good. Day one is breezing by. I did miss my morning cup of cream and sugar with a lil coffee, but I trooped through. Let’s hope today’s tenacity extends through-out this month. Will keep you updated.

RRR! Reuse Recycle Repurpose

I went out thrifting yesterday with my two favorite Thrifters In Crime: my daughter and my cousin! We went to Savers, which I’ve heard so much about. Wasn’t impressed. Will not be returning, either. Their prices were way too high! 😁 So of course, we went to our local fave. And they were having 50% off all furniture!!! The price tag said $29.99, but at 50% off, it was $12.50!! I plan to paint it black. Pottery Barn style. I’ll have an update in a few days!

Where’s the beef!

“Mom”, “what’s for dinner? These four words have the ability to strike terror into the hearts of every working woman I know, even those of us self-proclaimed kitchen lovers. Coming up with new ways of inventing chicken, pork, beef, and seafood is a daunting task particularly when coupled with time restraints. It’s especially difficult when you have children with discerning taste.

After a loooooong 8 hour work day, the professional mom must then go home and prepare a meal for her expectant family. This on top of kids’ sports, tutoring, homework, cleaning, and other duties as necessary can make for a tiring evening. How do we combat this issue of the evening meal in a quick and efficient manner?

The Martha Stewarts of the world would have you believe that time management and precise weekly or even monthly meal planning are the way to go. That’s fine and dandy if you are of the Stepford Wife variety. For those of us living off the cuff in this busy, go-go-go, non-stop world of mothering, planning is sometimes more energy than we can muster prior to passing out for the night. To deal with the chaos of this lifestyle, I have learned a few easy to manage steps that have saved many a late dinner night.

1) There is nothing wrong with hot dogs 2 – 3 times a week
2) McDonald’s $1 menu is user friendly
3) Dessert night is popular with the little people
4) Go for what you know = figure it out yourself and don’t bother me
5) Top Ramen – this generation believes it to be a delicacy
6) Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, cereal is a wonderful dinner substitute
7) Stay at home moms make the best neighbors
8) There are a variety of frozen meals goodies that can be purchased ahead of time and stored
9) Eat out every night
10)And my personal favorite, swallow air and chase it with water

Of course I’m joking! If I had a real answer to this age old question; I’d be rich and famous. The key to success is to do what works within the walls of your own home. Don’t let the June Cleaver days of old or the over-achiever moms of current day, rain on your parade. The recipe to great family dinners is a lot of family love; a heap of understanding; a smidgen of cooking ability; tons of patience; and an ounce of time. The kids will enjoy any meal sitting down with parents who take the time to communicate and spend time with them. Enjoy!

Fruited Water

I know you’ve seen the tons of recipes around the ‘net, to make fruited water. I won’t bore you with a detailed tutorial. But, I’ll tell you what I used.

Ingredients: 10 strawberries, 1/2 orange, 2 limes, 1 lemon, 15 raspberries, 20 red grapes, a few mint leaves (mint is soooo strong)

Directions: Thinly slice all fruit. Put citrus in bottom of a gallon size pitcher. Mash citrus to release juices. Add remaining fruit. Fill pitcher with water, add ice. Let sit for 30 min to infuse all fruits. Add mint leaves and serve over more ice. Enjoy!

BET Awards Fashion: White Ain’t Always Right

So after careful deliberation, here are our picks:
1. Jamie & Chris are a split for us. Poseh likes Chris’ Miami casual look. I think Jamie can do no wrong.
2. Paula vs Omarosa: hands down, Omarosa is a winner. Paula, try again, please.
3. Kenya vs Michelle: Kenya totally rocked this look. Her brown skin is glowing!
4. Angela vs Ashanti: Angela should have not been hosting at all w/ that frock on. Ashanti is letting us know, she is back!
5. Latoya vs Mya: What was Mya thinking? Her white was not right! Latoya was beautiful.

$15 Thrifty Find

I can’t say it enough: I.love.thrift.stores. Yes, I do! Here’s my latest treasure find! And the lucky recipient of said treasure find, my 16 month old grandson, Ke’Mari. I think he likes it. Did I tell ya it was only $15?! And that included the new mattress! Believe me, this toddler bed is in excellent condition. Since he loves Mickey, my wheels (and my Pinterest board) is already in motion. I’m gonna go for a Mickey theme. Black, red, yellow. And of course, Mickey art on the headboard.
